Meet Avantia Damberg
Avantia Damberg (1977, Leeuwarden, Nederland) is a multidisciplinary visual artist from Curaçao, having moved back to the island at age seven to settle permanently in the culture she would later represent through her work. As a leading figure in contemporary Caribbean art, she creates engaging installation art, public art, collage, and more. Her works draw on Curaçao’s nature, history, soundscapes, typography, and graphic design—bringing everyday environments to life with meaning and creativity.
She founded SKOR Kórsou, a foundation dedicated to promoting public art in Curaçao. Avantia’s iconic projects include Map of Curaçao II at Kranshi, the Otrobanda Colourful Steps, and Whispering Coral, a coral-stone sculpture and fountain inspired by the Art Hotel Curaçao logo. Her international presence includes Curaçao Layers, installed at the Wereldmuseum Amsterdam. With her distinctive approach, Damberg continues to shape public art, visual art, and contemporary art in Curaçao, while strengthening the global presence of Caribbean artists.
