Meet Ellen Spijkstra
Inspired by the tropical underwater world, artist Ellen Spijkstra brings the interesting shapes and textures of the weathered coral stones to her art. Her work is featured in each of our hotel rooms, and we are excited to share it with you.
Born in Holland, Spijkstra moved to Curaçao in 1986 after completing her studies at Minerva Academy of Fine Arts in Groningen and Rochester Institute of Technology in the USA. She has held solo exhibitions in Aruba, Belgium, Curaçao, the Dominican Republic, the Netherlands, and Venezuela, and has participated in group exhibitions across the USA, China, Croatia, Italy, Macedonia, Puerto Rico, South Korea, Taiwan, Turkey, and more.
Since 1986, Spijkstra has received numerous awards for her work in photography and ceramics. Her most recent project involves creating art for our hotel. In her studio, she handcrafted hundreds of ceramic art pieces that now adorn the walls of our hotel rooms providing our guests with an inspiring and artful stay.
